Inspiring Artist Research
For me, a super inspiring artist is Jack Johnson. He is a musician that has come super far by relating to the modern events happening in life. He started on his own without anyone taking him to fame. He was born in Hawaii and so started to play the guitar and create very chill island vibe music. Mostly, he made acoustic music, using just his voice and his guitar at first because that was all of the resources that he had. That inspired me because he did not have much but he still used that to create good music that became widely known. Before he started to create music, he focused on making surf films. He listed The Beatles, Hendrix, Nick Drake, and Marley as some of the people that influenced his musical style. After playing for a little while though, he began to create his own style. He also did not even start to play guitar until the age of 15, which is rather late given when his career began.

"Editor's Comments: Imaginative Photography" Response
There are three main types of photography which are documentary, personal narrative, and imaginative. There are four separate types of imaginative photography. They are hyper real, symbolic, new physical universe, and new psychological universe.
The documentary form shows the world as it is, with the photographer taking a step back from the subject. A personal narrative is the photographer's own story, however, it often needs to have a purpose and a way that the viewer can connect with it. Something needs to be universal about it. Imaginative photography creates a new world from imagination, and not just from Photoshop manipulation.
My work has fallen into of the categories at some point in my life since I started taking photography. Before that, I did not know much about photography but I enjoyed using different apps to experiment. That being said, I think that I have used all of the types of photography pretty thoroughly, but my favorite type has been narrowed down after time and experiences. My favorite shooting technique is portraits and close ups. I love planning shoots and shooting people which I can manipulate, but there is also a feeling of mystery when planning because it is a human being, not a set object.
My work seems to fall into all of the categories, I do not have a very distinct style and I like switching up what I am doing. That being said, I hope to maybe develop a bit more of a distinct style, but I like trying new things.

Research and Emulation - Flower Photography
I chose to emulate Paul Chong, a flower photographer. When taking my photos, I made sure to look at the angles from which he took his photos.

In this photo, I used the same depth of field and focusing on the petals of the flower, not the center and not the surrounding foliage. He explains that it is extremely important to focus on the flower and not have a complicated background. It is one of his favorite types of fine art photography in that it is simple but there is so much detail to draw from.

This is also my photo and I did not use the exact same type of flowers but he used a very interesting way of depth of field. He chose certain flowers to focus on and then as things got further away, they also got my blurry. I used that idea to emulate the photo and I think that it was pretty successful.
At the end of this project, I made transfers of the flowers that I then put in a picture frame. I think it was a successful emulation, especially because many times people need direction when taking photos of flowers, because it is hard to figure out what to focus on, and by emulating his photographs I was able to see examples of what I should be doing.
Here are a few more examples of flower pictures that I took.

Light, Shadow, and Reflection Blog Work
Backlighting:

Demi metered on the curtains because the rose is black meaning that it is not being exposed. If instead the author metered on the rose, then the colors of the rose and hand would stand out while the curtain would likely appear less vibrant and clear. It would become more blurry.
